Welcome to EPSE 308: Human Development, Learning, and Diversity
Course Coordinator: Lina Darwich
Course Instructor: Arthur Wolf
As a future educator, an understanding of how children develop and learn is central to your career; equally important is an appreciation of the diversity that exists among students. This course is designed to provide teacher candidates with a broad exposure to:
1) theories about how children develop, learn and grow up;
2) issues of diversity as you prepare to work in classrooms and school settings.
You will learn how to best facilitate these processes, by considering the organization of classrooms, the pedagogical approaches adopted, and the kinds of relationships developed with students. This course will also provide you with a framework to facilitate increased understanding of self around issues such as: identity, culture, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexuality, sexual orientation, social class, mental health, and dis/ability.
